## What to Expect When Scuba Diving

Scuba diving is an exhilarating and rewarding experience that allows you to explore the underwater world in a whole new way. However, it’s important to be prepared for what to expect before you take the plunge.

### Before You Dive

#### Get Certified

The first step to scuba diving is getting certified. This involves taking a course from a certified instructor. The course will teach you the basics of scuba diving, including how to use your gear, how to breathe underwater, and how to stay safe.

#### Choose the Right Gear

Once you’re certified, you’ll need to purchase the right gear. This includes a wetsuit or drysuit, a regulator, a buoyancy compensator device (BCD), a mask, fins, and a dive computer.

#### Find a Buddy

Scuba diving is always more fun with a buddy. Find a friend or family member who is also interested in diving and get certified together.

### On the Day of the Dive

#### Arrive Early

On the day of the dive, arrive early to give yourself plenty of time to get your gear together and do a safety check.

#### Listen to the Dive Briefing

Before the dive, the divemaster will give a briefing. The briefing will cover the dive site, the dive plan, and any potential hazards.

#### Enter the Water

Once you’re briefed, it’s time to enter the water. There are two main ways to enter the water: from a boat or from the shore.

#### Descend

Once you’re in the water, you’ll descend to the bottom. The descent is usually gradual, but you may feel some pressure in your ears as you go deeper.

#### Explore the Dive Site

Once you’re at the bottom, you can explore the dive site. You can look for marine life, swim through coral reefs, or even explore underwater caves.

#### Ascend

When it’s time to ascend, you’ll slowly rise to the surface. The ascent should also be gradual to avoid decompression sickness.

#### Exit the Water

Once you’re back at the surface, you’ll exit the water and remove your gear.

### After the Dive

#### Log Your Dive

After the dive, you should log your dive. This will help you keep track of your dives and your experience.

#### Rinse Your Gear

After the dive, you should rinse your gear with fresh water to remove any salt or debris.

#### Store Your Gear Properly

When you’re not diving, you should store your gear in a cool, dry place.
